They might try to scam you Positive: This experience taught me to always look at the reviews before booking a reservation Negative: They were several days late in returning my deposit. Like many people, I didn't see the fine print until I had already booked my reservation, so I didn't know about the deposit until they emailed me saying I had to pay to get the check in code and they would refund me within 5-7 business days. It seemed strange that they would charge multiple times the nightly rate as a deposit, and they would only take it by zelle or venmo, but I had already paid for the reservation so I went along with it. I tried to pay through zelle but my bank declined because villa dubois had been reported as a scam before. I wanted to speak to someone at the location, but when I got there I saw another thing they weren't completely transparent about: the place is a hostel, not a hotel. There are no staff you can speak to face to face or over the phone. You have to text and hope to get a response within an hour or so. Regretfully I sent the deposit through venmo. I stayed one night, paid the extra fee before midnight to check out after 10am, cleaned up the place and left by 12:30pm. Two weeks later I hadn't received my deposit so I emailed villa dubois. They asked what my name and venmo username was, which was odd because my name is on my email address and I had sent them a screenshot of the venmo payment. They said they'll review my reservation and send the refund. The next day nothing had been sent so I followed up. No response. I emailed them again the following day and they asked for my venmo username again. They asked what time I checked out. I sent a screenshot of the late fee and their text confirming that they received the late fee. They said "we'll confirm" I called and finally reached someone, but they claimed they couldn't hear me while I was screaming into my phone. It seemed like the "you're breaking up" trick people do in comedy movies.
